A Place Where True LiesA Place Where Lie Was Alien
|
We painted our kitchen wall black and once in a while, we will be inviting artists to create something for us. This black wall is a blank canvas to play with and experiment. There are no expectations that need to be fulfilled; the process should be fun and relaxing, an opportunity for us and the artists to work free of the usual strains that come with an exhibition. This is our idea of domestic and professional bliss and there is no space more suitable than our kitchen - the space that physically unites our office with our home, right at the heart of our everyday. The kitchen, the hearth, where meals are prepared and secrets of nurturing the loved ones are passed on. We will be sharing these temporary works through our website and Facebook page.
First in the list of hopefully many projects to be realised in the framework of "A Place Where Truth Lies", two of our favourite artists and dear friends, Chryse Tsiota and Vasilis Zografos, created a piece for our kitchen wall. Chryse and Vasilis have worked together before, for their exhibition "Mysteria", at the Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki (2012). Into our kitchen, they brought an empty astronaut’s suit, a cut-up naked woman, and fragments of vast wilderness. Man as a utopia - an empty suit (un)prepared to explore the universe; woman as exotic creature, life-giving spring; side by side they stand, both united and separated by both nature and civilisation. Their phrase "a place where lie was alien" inspired us to give to this series of temporary works the ambiguous title "a place where truth lies". We could not have hoped for a more promising start… |
