The core team
Since 1994, the pan-Hellenic architectural exhibition has been held every three years by the Architects Association of Achaia Prefecture. Τhe event aims to become a meeting point, an occasion for dialogue and creative critique between architects currently active in Greece, and to promote architecture to the wider public - the non-experts who are also the recipients and users of architecture. Therefore, the 6th pan-Hellenic exhibition is not just an exhibition intending to promote the architectural product, but a process that aims at highlighting the significance of architectural works by explaining certain aspects of the issues included in these works to the non-specialised public. The 6th pan-Hellenic exhibition will attempt to publicly promote the significance of the architectural work as the result of a creative process, through which a personal view, a collective stance or the answer to society’s broader concerns materialise in space.
The exhibition addresses the issue of boundaries that has troubled architects and academics in the field of humanitarian and social studies over the last decades. In the framework of interdisciplinarity, the first boundaries to have been questioned by academic communities were the very boundaries of scientific disciplines. At the same time, the boundaries between the sexes, minorities, as well as dominant and dominated ideologies have become the subjects of reconsideration. Architectural creation questions collective stereotypes, subverts conventional boundaries, and redefines relationships in space. Over the last few decades, architects, too, have employed theory and practice to reconsider boundaries, both conceptual and actual, such as the boundaries between private and public space, the man-made world and nature, classical geometry and its transcendence, as well as the boundaries of matter before the immaterial aspect of information. In its efforts to publicise architecture to a group of non-architects, the team of curators of the 6th pan-Hellenic architectural exhibition is collaborating with Christos Savvidis from ArtBOX.gr | Creative Arts Management, who specialises in the design, management and communication of contemporary art projects. For the purpose of achieving substantial communication with the broad public, the issue of boundaries was declared as the theme of the event through the title “WALLS”, a term that has a strong symbolic content and is primarily associated with space and architecture, but is also a widely-comprehensible everyday term that contains –at a deeper level of interpretation– the issue of boundaries in its entirety. ArtBOX.gr is also curating the parallel program dedicated to contemporary art. |
