Balkan Reality & the Role of the Curator[round-table discussion]
|
IntroFor the past few years, several major exhibitions focusing on contemporary art and artists from the Balkans have been organised around Europe, curated by established curators; among which: "In search of Balkania" (2002, Neue Galerie am Landesmuseum Joanneum, Graz, by Peter Weibel, Roger Conover and Eda Cufer), "In the Gorges of the Balkans" (2003, Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kassel, by Rene Block), and "Blood and Honey" (2003, Essl Museum, Klosterneuburg / Vienna, by Harald Szeemann). This triggered our idea to invite experts in the field of Balkan art exhibitions to discuss the rationale behind those Balkan reports, the role of curators and the ideas and perspectives of Art in Southeast Europe.
