by LABattoir project

LABattoir Internet Site
[WORKSHOP] [ARTISTIC INTERVENTIONS] [RESEARCH]

Description:

LABattoir has initiated a process of communication and dialogue with people living or working in the area where it is located, aiming to activate the neighbourhood, encourage the sense of community between its residents and renew the area’s identity both for its own users as well as for the rest of the city.

In compliance with its mission and main goals mentioned above, LABattoir organised a series of workshops named Social Research Studio in order to apply collective research and test new models in order to activate the neighbourhood of LABattoir, but also to measure the impact that the project itself has on the community.
As result of these workshops, Research LAB was created, a team of interdisciplinary workshop participants who wanted to research further the area.

About LABattoir

LABattoir is a project developed by ArtBOX and supported by the Municipality of Thessaloniki's Department of Culture.
The program is implemented through a founding grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and it is based at the recently refurbished building of the old municipal slaughterhouse.

LABattoir is a socially engaged machine for the production of culture; a laboratory of applied creativity that responds to society’s needs and problems introducing solutions and alternative strategies with the contribution of the artist as catalyst and the citizen as co-producer.
